Proceed with Caution = Full Speed Ahead

.
"A friend once asked me what comedy waz.
That floored me. What iz comedy? I don't know.
Duz anybody? Can you define it?
All I know iz that I learned how to get laughs,
and that's all I know about it.
You have to learn what people will laugh at,
then proceed accordingly."

  2. Are you mixing philosophy with comedy? I think I need a drink. :)) You might just open up a new genre.

    Many blessings...

  4. as stan laurel proved comedy is what happens to other people. as for creating a new genre, its allready been done. the anciant greek philosophers were kinda kooks on the edges of society well most of them atleast and people came to them for entertainment as well as enlightenment they would peform for them, like stand up philosophy or something.

  5. That's the thing, though. Many stand-up comics spend more time doing stand-up philosophy than making me laugh.

For Example: Margaret Cho, Whoopi Goldberg and Bill Maher.

Although Bill's creative ranting is way too funny, and I don't even agree with him on everything. He just has a way of getting me to amusingly see his point of view.

Chris Rock is expressively creative in your face ranting that has me rolling on the floor, holding my stomach.

Another creative ranter, Dennis Miller says that his greatest comic influence is Richard Belzer--"The Tigris and Euphrates of cool."

Bill Cosby doesn't rant... he just shows you the world through his straight man filter.

And Brad Stine's CD "Put A Helmet On" is such a straight on look at a crazy world that is marvelously brilliant.

Then there's Eddie Izzard whose wacky sense of British reality while he's dressed in high heelz is just so perfect.

But I would have to say that the one comedian who truly knows how to break the "shock" barrier and really get down to where comedy is truth and pain--- Robin Williams.

Robin is such good friends with Richard Belzer that he tells jokes about the Belz on stage without mentioning his name... but I knew who he meant--that was priceless.

To have someone joke about me like that would be such a compliment...

The Belz is roasting Jerry Lewis on June 9th for Jerry's 80th birthday. Wish I could be there.

  7. Guess it's that wonderful accent of his that had me confused... Still he reminds me of Monty Python's Flying Circus.
